Purplish-gray skin is stretched over his thin bones. His lips are torn by the stitches his own grandmother had sewn, and his face is often described as a death’s-head. He wears silvery robes and chain mail gloves. Carrion’s unique physical characteristic lies in the translucent glass collar, which encircles his neck and covers half of his face. It holds a blue fluid where his nightmares can manifest and swim. Straight from Carrion’s own twisted mind, they’re able to enter reality through the two pipes connected to the back of his skull. Special abilities/talents: With his nightmarish manifestations, he can torture/kill people by letting the nightmares feed off their fears. He can create new creatures with the dust of old corpses (though his creations tend to not last for long). He has incredible physical strength and has been known to strangle his enemies with his own hands… He can perform some magic (fighting, able to disguise his form). He has a device that allows him to see into people’s dreams. And he has a talent for poetry. Quirks: Two-sided and manipulative. He can act the part of a gentleman if it suits him, but his demeanor can change in an instant if his temper is provoked. Personality: Carrion is egotistical, sadistic, and cold-hearted. He doesn’t mind causing violence and pain among his weak-minded minions occasionally. Through whispers and imaginary fears, he can nudge a brother to turn against brother, friend against friend. Creating terror is his main hobby, besides dabbling in dark magic and tampering with Rojo Pixler’s technology. He is intelligent and cunning. When his curiosity is provoked, he will often become obsessive until he is satisfied. Used to getting what he wants, refusing Carrion is often a death wish… Reputation: Abaratians know him as the Prince of Midnight, one of the last two or three remaining members of the Carrion family. Though his cruelty is well known, his grandmother, Mater Motley, is even more feared in the Abaratian archipelago. Background Information: The Abarat is located in the Sea of the Izabella. It is made up of islands representing each hour of the day, plus the mysterious Twenty-Fifth Hour. Full of amazing and frightening creatures, the archipelago is separate from our world, the Hereafter (known to most Abaratians as a fairytale). Christopher Carrion originates from the island Gorgossium, located at twelve in the morning. During the war between the Islands of Day and the Islands of Night, he had fallen in love with the Princess Boa. He pleaded with her to marry him under the pretense that it would bring peace to the islands, but the Princess could not return his feelings and didn’t trust him. Mad with grief, he masterminded her murder on her own wedding day. His ultimate goal is to bring Absolute Midnight to the Abarat, in order to unleash a darkness from the very waters of Mama Izabella. During the second book of the Abarat, however, his grandmother Mater Motley betrays him and a girl from the Hereafter named Candy Quakenbush defeats him.
